Laboratory Assistant
Location: Bedford
Job Type: Temporary, Ongoing
Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
We’re looking for a Lab Assistant to join a busy laboratory team in Bedford. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive, innovative environment with purpose-built facilities and a strong reputation in analytical testing.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing samples of crops and foodstuffs for laboratory analysis
- Cataloguing, locating, and re-arranging samples in a walk-in fridge
- Safely disposing of completed samples and empty containers
- Maintaining stock of consumables needed for daily activities
- Supporting the technician team with general laboratory tasks
- Following health, safety, and quality procedures at all times
- Assisting with additional tasks as directed by the Laboratory Manager
Requirements:
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills and time management
- Experience in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Previous lab experience is desirable but not essential
Important information:
- A DBS check (current or previous) is necessary
- This role involves manual handling and use of machinery
- The position requires working in chilled environments, with short, routine visits to a walk-in fridge.
- Handling of foods, including nuts, is required
