Management Accountant                  

Reports to:              Financial Controller

The Position:

The Management Accountant is responsible for providing accurate, timely and insightful financial information to support effective decision-making across Polygon.   This role plays a key role in financial control, performance reporting, budgeting and forecasting, helping the business to understand performance, manage costs and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial reporting
    • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow reporting and associated KPIs
    • Assist in month-end processes, ensuring journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet account reconciliations are completed in accordance with policies and deadlines
    • Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards (e.g. UK GAAP or IFRS)
  • Cash Flow
    • Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management
  • Internal Controls, Compliance and Audit
    • Maintain strong financial controls and processes
    • Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations (VAT, corporation tax, CIS)
    • Assist with year-end audit preparation and statutory reporting
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Assist with the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, working closely with budget holders and senior leaders
    • Produce meaningful financial analysis and commentary to explain business performance, trends, risks and opportunities
    • Assist with creating and developing financial models to support business case development, commercial modelling and scenario analysis, using multiple data sources.
  • Strategic Support
    • Partner with operational and functional stakeholders to improve financial understanding and support sound commercial decision-making
    • Support senior management with financial analysis and ad hoc reporting
    • Analyse operational costs and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
    • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting quality and efficiency through continuous improvement
    • Contribute to the wider finance team activity and projects as required, supporting business priorities and change initiatives

Skills and Attributes:

  • ACCA, ACA or CIMA Qualified
  • Previous experience in a Management Accountant or similar finance role
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, using multiple data sources
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • Experience using accounting software and ERP systems (IFS highly desirable)
  • Excellent attention to detail and curiosity to understand more
